It is no secret that I’m a big fan of Raul Jimenez. Isn’t everybody?
A couple of months ago on this blog, just prior to our 3-2 defeat to Wolves in which he scored one and assisted another, I described the Mexican striker as being “just a fraction short of being as good as Harry Kane”.

Seemingly, Jose Mourinho agrees as Foot Mercarto in France are reporting that the Spurs boss has reached out to Jimenez to assure him of a “big role” in the team if he were to join, regardless of whether Kane stays or not.
A problem with signing any decent striker over the last five years is the acceptance that they will always be second choice behind Harry.
I was starting to get on board with pocketing £200m from Kane’s sale, spending a chunk on Jimenez and keeping the significant change, but this report suggests there is a chance that we could have both of them.
That would be a major difference maker for us; a top-class forward to push Kane and play alongside him, but it sounds too good to be true.
Indeed, Foot Mercarto add the caveat that Mourinho has advised Jimenez to be patient while the club assess whether we have the financial muscle to be able to afford the Wolves forward in the aftermath of Covid-19.
That’ll be a no, then.
