Tottenham Offer Veterans With Expiring Deals New Contracts | Report

Tottenham have reportedly offered Jan Vertonghen and Michel Vorm contracts to see out the remainder of the 2019-20 season with the club.

Two of the most senior members of the squad are out of contract in June and are free to leave the club despite the Premier League campaign being scheduled to go into July and August as the final nine games are completed.

The London Evening Standard understands that Spurs are optimistic that Vertonghen will agree to the short-term extension, despite the risk of sustaining an injury that could jeopardise potential suitors this summer.

Vorm also has terms on the table, according to Sky Sports, and would likely show no hesitation in signing them after we plucked him back from semi-retirement to provide extra goalkeeping cover during Hugo Lloris’ layoff.

I’ve said goodbye to Vorm once before and won’t lose any sleep if I don’t see him again in a Spurs shirt – in fact I might sleep a whole lot easier. But I do think it would be a shame if Vertonghen’s eight fantastic years ended in a lockdown whimper, even if he wouldn’t get the proper farewell from fans that he deserves.
