Tottenham have the edge on Man Utd in battle to sign 23-year-old La Liga star

Spanish media outlet, AS has revealed that Tottenham has now moved ahead of Manchester United in the race to sign Real Madrid defender Sergio Reguilon.

Spurs have been interested in the left-back for some time now after watching him shine on-loan at Sevilla last season.

He helped the Seville-based side win the Europa League and to qualify for the Champions League.

Yet he will not be able to break into the Madrid first team because he is behind Marcelo and Ferland Mendy.

Real is looking to sell him and it appeared that he would join Manchester United, but the Red Devils are not prepared to accept the conditions for the transfers.

Madrid believes that he will be a star in the future and they have decided to insert a buy-back clause in any deal taking him away.

Manchester United are not ready to accept a buy-back clause. However, Tottenham is prepared to accept the condition and that willingness may have swung the transfer in their favour.

The report claims that Spurs will pay 30 million euros to sign him and accept a buy-back clause of around 35m to 40m that will stand for two years.

Reguilon will join Ben Davies as left-back options at Spurs, and that will mean that Danny Rose will certainly be allowed to leave the club before the transfer window shuts.
