Sky Sports Pundit: Mourinho Is Levy’s Last Chance To Keep Kane

Amid plenty of speculation regarding Harry Kane’s future, Ian Wright believes he’ll remain with Tottenham for another season.

The Spurs captain caused a stir over the weekend, as he told Sky Sports that he could consider an exit if he felt as though the club weren’t moving closer towards winning trophies.

Kane has bagged 181 goals in 278 appearances for Spurs in what has been a superb spell with the club, but he has yet to secure any silverware to show for his efforts.

While there has been a general reaction amongst pundits insisting that Spurs fans shouldn’t begrudge the England international a move away if it were to materialise after what he’s given to Tottenham, Wright doesn’t believe he’s going anywhere just yet.

“Now they have a manager who is a notorious winner of trophies,” Wright told BBC Sport. “Kane did say ‘next year will be the first chance the gaffer will have to bed his values into the team’.

“That says to me he is somebody who is already thinking of next year, so he’s not going anywhere.

“I’d give this manager a chance with his pre-season, do next season and see where it goes. Because from when he made his debut up to now, I think he has given them everything he can.

“If nothing happens and Harry Kane decides to leave then you have you have to say ‘well, he’s under Mourinho, nothing has changed’. He wants to win medals.

“You can’t have that kind of ability, that kind of goalscorer who is able to win matches, and not win anything. You can’t.”

Time will tell if that’s what Kane is ultimately thinking, as with Mourinho hoping to bring in reinforcements this summer coupled with his track record of winning everywhere he has been, it’s only fair to judge him after a full season in charge.

Signings ahead of next season could instil more confidence that Spurs are ready to compete, allowing them to move on from the end of the cycle under Mauricio Pochettino and start a fresh one under their current boss.

Should they fail to do so though, a lack of trophies next season could ultimately call for the end of Kane’s spell in north London, as suggested by Wright.
