Report: Tottenham linked to Napoli defender who eyes move to Barcelona

Tottenham Hotspur will be in the market for a central defender to strengthen their backline of three, which already has Cristian Romero and Eric Dier. Nonetheless, the north London club reportedly wants an upgrade over Ben Davies.

Various reports have many central defenders that can fill this role at Spurs. The latest name to come into the fold is Napoli defender Kalidou Koulibaly, who wants to leave the Serie A club this summer.

ESPN reports that the 30-year-old prefers a £30-million (€35-million) move to FC Barcelona this summer. However, there’s also information in the note that suggests Premier League sides Chelsea and Tottenham, and Juventus have tried to start talks for a move for Koulibaly.

The report adds that Barcelona is aware of Koulibaly’s desire to join the La Liga side but has yet to make a move, despite boss Xavi wanting to bolster his defense this summer.

It will be interesting to see whether Spurs can convince Koulibaly’s mind about being open to other destinations.

Nonetheless, Tottenham’s interest in the Senegal international doesn’t come as a surprise since both club chief Fabio Paratici and manager Antion Conte saw him in person during their time in Serie A.
