Latest: Conte intervenes last minute to block midfielder’s move to Serie A despite clubs having ‘an agreement in principle’

Paolo Armenia, the CEO of Cremonese, revealed that Antonio Conte has thwarted the Serie A club’s efforts to sign Pape Matar Sarr.

Last week, Fabrizio Romano reported that Spurs were confident of finding the right loan deal for the Senegal international before the transfer window closed, and that several Serie A clubs were interested in signing him.

Gianluca Di Marzio, however, revealed on Monday that Spurs have decided to take Sarr off the market after Rodrigo Bentancur suffered a concussion in Sunday’s match against Nottingham Forest.

Armenia has now revealed that his club had agreed to sign the former Metz player on loan before Conte intervened and put a stop to it.

The chief of the newly promoted Serie A club told CuoreGrigiorosso:

“We had an agreement in principle with Sarr of Tottenham but then an injury led Conte to stop everything.”

With Skipp yet to return to full fitness and Bentancur’s concussion, it makes sense but you can expect Spurs to loan him out in January if they have enough players fit.
