‘I don’t think this is realistic’ – Conte issues Spurs reality check

Tottenham picked up a 2-1 win over Fulham in the Premier League earlier today.

Goals from Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg and Harry Kane in either half sealed a vital three points for Antonio Conte’s side and Spurs are now up to third in the league table, level on points with defending champions Manchester City.

Arsenal are at the top of the table with five wins from five outings.

Meanwhile, Conte has warned that Spurs will need to remain realistic about their ambitions this season. The Italian has claimed that his side are not at the level of the other top Premier League clubs yet and the expectations need to be managed carefully.

He said to Football London: “It’s important to have great enthusiasm and be excited for the team. At the same time, I have to be realistic as last November the situation was really problematic as we lost 3-0 at home against United and then club decide to make decision. In only ten months someone think we are same level as other top teams, I don’t think this is realistic. If I want to tell you a lie, I can tell you a lie.”

Spurs have had an impressive transfer window this summer and therefore the expectations are bound to be high. However, the likes of Manchester City have a better squad at their disposal and to expect Spurs to surpass them would be a tad unrealistic.

That said, Spurs have enough quality to challenge for the title and perhaps make it to the top two as well. The likes of Liverpool and Chelsea are in a transition phase and Arsenal are lacking depth in their squad.

Spurs, on the other hand, have a world-class manager and multiple match-winners in their squad.

It will be interesting to see where Spurs end up eventually.
