“I don’t see him getting back to the level he was a few years ago.” Pundit questions if Bale can reproduce his best form

Gareth Bale’s return to Tottenham this season was hailed as a transfer masterclass, but he is struggling for form right now and the critics have started to crawl out of the woodwork to write him off.

Bale was one of the world’s most explosive players when he left Tottenham for Real Madrid in 2013 and he won every trophy in club football with the Spanish side.

Over the last two years, his relevance began to drop and Zinedine Zidane was blamed for his poor form.

The return to north London was seen as a move to revive him and he was expected to also help Spurs become a top team again.

However, the Welshman has continued to struggle this season and after another anonymous showing at the weekend, Roy Keane doesn’t think he will not get back to the form that Spurs fans may have hoped.

He was speaking on Sky Sports and he said that he doesn’t think Bale can return to the levels of a few years back.

The Irishman said as quoted by The Sun: “I don’t see him getting back to the level he was a few years ago.

“Top players, you’ve got to play week in and week out.

“With Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi, and when Bale is at his best – we’re going back a few years now.

“I know he’s produced big moments in big moments – but he looks way off it.”
