Daniel Levy eyeing surprise move for Premier League manager if Conte leaves in the summer – opinion

Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly considering replacing wantaway Antonio Conte with Thomas Frank as they plan to rebuild the team from scratch.

Fichajes, a Spanish news outlet has claimed that the North London club are interested in hiring the Brentford manager if Antonio Conte leaves the club at the end of the season.

The club’s hierarchy, according to the report, is already looking for replacements for Antonio Conte, whose future at the club is uncertain amid reports of a return to Juventus.

The former Chelsea manager has done a great job at Spurs since taking over last season. He guided them to a top 4 finish, beating London rivals Arsenal to it on the last day of the season.

They have also started strong this season, despite their pragmatic style of play. Being third in the Premier League, ahead of Manchester United, Chelsea, and Liverpool, is no easy feat, and they still have a good chance of advancing to the Round of 16 of the Champions League ahead of their game against Marseille on Tuesday.

His recent success with Tottenham has not gone unnoticed, as the club’s hierarchy is eager to offer the Italian manager a new contract, with reports claiming that the club is ‘working‘ on a new deal for him.

But Spurs have reportedly started looking for alternatives for the former Premier League winner in case he does leave at season’s end. Amongst the names linked with the club is Brentford boss Thomas Frank.

The Dane was an assistant coach for Dean Smith before being promoted to the head coach job and they have consistently progressed under him. They finished mid-table in the Championship in his first season, advanced to the playoffs the following year, and were promoted to the Premier League in 2021 through the Championship playoffs.

They play some excellent attacking football under him and his progress with Brentford has gained him plaudits for his tactical acumen and for overperforming under a limited budget – a quality that would certainly tempt Daniel Levy.

While Thomas Frank has not yet proven his ability to manage a top-tier club with world-class players, that is no reason to assume that he will not be able to build a project at Spurs. After all, Pochettino did not have much experience either when he joined Spurs from Southampton, and look how great that decision turned out to be.
