Antonio Conte wants veteran players to step up in the final stretch for a top-four finish

Following the loss to Manchester United at Old Trafford, Tottenham Hotspur has a significant hurdle to get over if they hope to finish in the top four. The north London club sits six points from fourth place Arsenal, so they’ll also be looking to jump over four clubs, which is challenging.

During his press conference with the media, manager Antonio Conte wants his veteran players like Harry Kane, Son Heung-min, and Hugo Lloris to step up for the final 11 matches of the season.

Conte states that he wants his veterans with experience to lead the way for the young players who don’t know much about the pressure’s in a race for UEFA Champions League football. Furthermore, he wants all his players not only to give 100-percent but give more than they’re accustomed to this season.

“If you want to have a hope to fight until the end for this type of target, this is the moment I have to ask a lot to the big players,” Conte said, per The Athletic.

“To Harry, Hugo, and Sonny. These players have to lead the situation to keep us until the end there.”

“At the moment, experience is very important. We don’t have a lot of experience in this team, and it’s right to ask the players with experience and big talent to give everything,” Conte said.

“I think they’re giving everything, but 100 percent is not enough. We need to ask 120, 130 percent to have this type of target. It will be very important to have people with great talent to lead us until the end and to try to be very close to reach this target.”

Tottenham will travel to American Express Community Stadium for a matchup against Brighton & Hove Albion. Points are valuable, so Spurs can’t afford to drop any this week.
