Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly interested in signing Barcelona defender Andreas Christensen ahead of the summer transfer window. According to the latest report from Fichajes,

Tottenham are among the clubs keen on signing the Danish centre-back.

With the worst defence in the top half of the table, it is clear that Tottenham need top-class reinforcements to improve their back four.

Tottenham have been linked with a number of centre backs ahead of the summer transfer window as they look to improve their defence going into next season. Christensen is one of the latest names linked to a move to the North London club.

Spurs signed Clement Lenglet from Barcelona on a loan deal last summer and was considered a stop-gap signing after the club failed to sign any of their top-choice centre-backs. The report claims that Tottenham hope to use their “good relationship” with Barcelona to wrap up a deal for the player.

Barcelona need to reduce their wage bill substantially in the coming summer in order to comply with the Financial Fairplay rules.

This is why they are looking to cash in on several players in the upcoming transfer window. Newcastle and Aston Villa are also reportedly interested in signing Christensen.

Newcastle have one of the best defences in the league with Fabian Schär and Sven Botman forming an excellent centre-back partnership at the back. However, the report claims the Magpies are looking to add more quality to their squad depth considering they will have to rotate the squad next week as they close in on Champions League qualification.

Meanwhile, Aston Villa, who have been exceptional ever since Unai Emery has taken over, are looking to improve their squad for next season as well and the Dane would be a great signing for them.

If Spurs are interested in the former Chelsea man, they will have to fight off competition from Villa and Newcastle for his signature.
