Tottenham to rival Man United for Spanish ace while journalist gives insight to pursuit of Chelsea star

Last summer, Tottenham Hotspur expressed interest in Villarreal defender Pau Torress; however, the Spain international decided to remain with The Yellow Submarine, and with their run in the UEFA Champions League, it seems he made the right call.

Nonetheless, this summer, the 25-year-old will again have suitors and of them is Manchester United, but The Red Devils are alone. According to La Razon, the north London club is again circling back on its interest in Torres as they still need another central defender.

When it comes to the cost, the Spanish media outlet states that Villarreal will be open to listening offers if a proposal arrives near the €60-million, which is the termination clause in his contract.

Meanwhile, another possible center-back option that Tottenham might pursue is reuniting Chelsea defender Antonio Rudiger with his former manager Antonio Conte.

The Italian tactician brought the 29-year-old to Stamford Bridge, and Spurs insider John Wenham was skeptical of the initial reports but now sees this file as a realistic option.

“The Rudiger stuff won’t go away despite the fact I’ve ruled it out a number of times,” Wenham told Football Insider. “Maybe we are trying, don’t get me wrong. He is a left-sided center-back, which is what we are looking for.

“He walks into our team; in fact, he’s been the best defender in the Premier League this season. I just never saw him leaving Chelsea to join us. I would happily eat humble pie on that though. It would be a massive statement if the club can get him and make him part of the side. I do really hope that happens.”
