Tottenham officially confirm their participation in European Super League

So, it is actually going to happen. Tottenham have officially confirmed via their Twitter page that they are one of the 12 founding members of the European Super League.

The dirty dozen are as follows:

AC Milan
Arsenal
Atletico
Chelsea
Barcelona
Inter
Juventus
Liverpool
Man City
Man United
Real Madrid
Tottenham

The competition will be a midweek event that will replace the Champions League, well for these 12 teams anyway.

There will be no qualification required for the 12 founding clubs and they are guaranteed a place every single season regardless of how they perform in their respective leagues.

That is if they allowed to compete in their domestic competitions, which is very much up in the air as we speak.

So, Spurs could finish 10th but no worries, they are in, whereas Leicester City, for example, could finish 20 points and 6 places above them and they get diddly squat.

This is not based on merit at all and goes against everything that football is supposed to be about.

There is massive money involved and that is obviously one of the driving factors here, what is not a driving factor is what the fans think or want.

This is going to get real nasty real soon, UEFA is certain to react, so is the Premier League and there is not even a guarantee that Spurs or any of the above-named teams will be allowed to feature in their respective leagues next season.

There is also the players, with a strong likelihood that any players involved in this will be barred from international matches, including the world cup.

This is just the start, governments may even get involved and legal recourse is almost certain to follow.

Strap yourselves in, the battle for the soul of football has begun.
