Tottenham ‘firmly in the driving seat’ to land £40m-rated Premier League star

Spurs have big plans for the upcoming transfer window as they look to reinforce their squad.

Chelsea academy graduate Gallagher is one of the names on their wishlist and they are expected to push hard for his services.

Newcastle United are interested in signing the Chelsea star but Graeme Bailey believes Tottenham are front-runners for his signature. While he was linked with a move away from the club last summer, Gallagher ended up staying and he has since established himself as a mainstay in Mauricio Pochettino’s team. The 24-year-old Chelsea star has been ever-present in their midfield this season.

Despite his performances, his future is up in the air. His current deal runs out in the summer of 2025 and he has not been offered a new deal at Chelsea. As a result, a move away from the club is on the cards.

Graeme Bailey while speaking on Geordie Boot Boys said: “Conor Gallagher still hasn’t got his contract offer from Chelsea, so at this moment in time he’s leaving.

“I’m told that he’s not convinced about a move to Newcastle United. Newcastle do like him, they’ve always liked him. It is not to say he wouldn’t go, but I don’t think he’s massively keen on that move – that is what I am being told.

“I think Tottenham are firmly in the driving seat for him.”

The Magpies have a long-standing interest in Gallagher’s services but the player is not keen on joining them and Spurs are well-placed to acquire his services. They consider him to be a perfect fit for Ange Postecoglou’s style of play and have been pushing for his signature for a while now.

While the 24-year-old does not want to leave, the Blues need to sanction a few departures to comply with PSR. The academy graduate could be offloaded in the summer as he will help them register direct profit. The London club are looking to raise around £40 million from his sale.
