Davinson Sanchez, Eric Dier, Japhet Tanganga, Joe Rodon and Cristian Romero are all defensive options for Nuno Espirito Santo at Tottenham.
However, the Lilywhites are still struggling at the back and have been linked with a move for Harry Souttar of Stoke City.
Football Insider reports that Nuno Santo loves the 23-year-old and could bring him to London in the January transfer window.
Former West Ham man, Frank McAvennie, agrees that Spurs need a defender and are right to target one in the next transfer window.
He told Football Insider: “I mean if they are going to strengthen any area, it needs to be the defence.
“The problem with these defenders, is strikers want to play against them.
“Any striker worth their salt can score goals against that defence. I said before their game against Newcastle.
“Callum Wilson will score goals against that defence even with limited chances.
“They have midfield players playing in there. They are going nowhere with that backline.
“I know it’s obvious but you need to sign quality defenders if you want to have a better defence.
“It makes sense they are looking at new defenders, they have to sign someone in January.”

Some of the current defenders at Spurs are above average and can do a better job than they are doing now.
It remains unclear if a different manager would bring out the best in them, but adding a player from the Championship to the squad doesn’t look like a smart idea.

Souttar might be doing exploits in the Championship, but the Premier League is a different ball game.
