Report: Tottenham preparing a strong offer for Chelsea’s Antonio Rüdiger

The central defense is a position that Tottenham Hotspur hopes to improve in the coming transfer windows. This summer, the north London-based began its rebuild as it said goodbye against Jan Vertonghen and Toby Alderweireld.

Spurs then brought Cristian Romero from Atalanta as the first step to turning over the position to a younger group. Tottenham brought in the Argentine, who is 22-years-old and adds youth to the group, but it seems as though they don’t only want young players to fill the center-back role.

Eurosport reports that Tottenham wants to pursue a defender with some experience and in the middle of his prime as they’re putting a concrete proposal for Chelsea’s Antonio Rüdiger.

With the January window opening in a couple of weeks, the Germany international can sign a pre-contract with any team since his deal with Chelsea expires in June.

Romero has a lot of potential, but he’s young, and perhaps Antonio Conte wants an older defender that’s in the middle of his prime and not on the downside of his career. Furthermore, Conte did bring Rüdiger to The Blues when he was their manager, so there’s a connection.
