Win, lose or draw, you never felt like there was much to take out of Mauricio Pochettino’s post-match reaction.
‘This is football,‘ he would shrewdly observe.
‘We need to improve,’ he would insist repeatedly.
‘I am so proud,’ he would say on the good days.
So it was refreshing to see an honest and detailed post-match assessment from Jose Mourinho following last night’s loss to Manchester United.

It was the first defeat of Mourinho’s Tottenham Hotspur reign but he hammered down on a theme from previous matches – our slow starts.
We were sluggish against Bournemouth, two down inside 19 minutes to Olympiacos and behind to Marcus Rashford’s early strike at Old Trafford.
‘Reactive, and not proactive’, is how the Portuguese described us, admitting we need to be more aggressive and intense from the first whistle.

Mourinho won’t sit back and let this happen over and over again. There is faith in him to address problems I didn’t have in Pochettino.
