Real Madrid star set to spoil Jose Mourinho’s transfer plans

Marca says that Luka Modric has agreed to extend his stay at Real Madrid for another season dashing Tottenham’s hopes of landing him.

After bringing back Gareth Bale in the summer, Jose Mourinho was reportedly trying to persuade Modric to make a return to north London.

The Croatian would have been able to speak to new teams from next month as he struggled to extend his Madrid deal.

However, the report says that he has always wanted to remain in Madrid and he was even willing to take a pay cut to achieve that.

His current deal was to expire at the end of this season, but he will remain in Madrid until 2022 now which would mean he has spent 10 years at the club.

Spurs are mounting a title challenge this season and they have some of the best midfielders in the league, however, the experience of Modric might have helped them achieve even more things in the second half of the season.

If the Croatian doesn’t join, Spurs might look at signing another player next month or perhaps they will just manage with their current options.

Modric’s new deal hasn’t been officially announced by Madrid yet and that might mean that Spurs can still get their man if they push harder for him.
