Tottenham Hotspur have been linked with a move for the Bournemouth winger Antoine Semenyo in recent weeks.
According to former Spurs scout Mick Brown, the rumours surrounding the 24-year-old winger’s future are mostly agent talk and Brown believes that the player’s agent is looking to secure a new contract from the Cherries by drumming up interest in his client.
“I’m told a lot of this talk is agent-led,” he told Football Insider.
“They’re putting out the word on their client to drum up interest in his signature.
“That could land him a new deal at Bournemouth, because it’s a two-way thing.
“I know the club think highly of him and don’t want to see him leave so they could discuss a new contract to put off interest.
“But the agent will be saying that if they don’t offer a contract, there’s now interest from other clubs, so it’s a win-win situation for them.
“That’s how agents work these days, they’re always looking to make things happen.”
According to Football Insider, Bournemouth could now offer him another new contract despite the player recently signing a new deal with them. The development will come as a major blow for Tottenham.
Semenyo has been a key player for Bournemouth since joining the club in 2023. He has scored a total of 12 goals for them and picked up three assists in 56 appearances. He could have been a useful acquisition for Tottenham. However, one has to wonder whether the links with the North London club are genuine. Brown certainly feels that a lot of it is agent talk and therefore Tottenham might not be very serious about signing him. It will be interesting to see how the situation develops. The player has been linked with Arsenal as well.
The 24-year-old has shown his quality in the Premier League with the Cherries, and he will hope to compete at a higher level in the coming seasons. The opportunity to join clubs like Tottenham will be quite attractive for him. They could provide him with the platform to push for trophies.
