Legendary defender set for a surprise move to Spurs in January

Tottenham could sign Italy legend Leonardo Bonucci, who is not happy with his current situation at Juventus.

According to Italian journalist Giulio Mola, the 35-year-old has a falling out with manager Max Allegri and has asked the Turin club to sell him when the transfer window reopens.

The journalist has mentioned Tottenham as the Italian’s likely destination. Antonio Conte worked with the player at Juventus and knows everything there is to know about the Italian defender. Conte relied heavily on Bonucci, and the pair may be interested in reuniting.

Bonucci who is valued at around £5 million by Transfermarkt, will be an excellent signing for the North London club. Acting as a stop-gap signing, he will not only be a leader from the back but also be a mentor for the other young centre-backs at the club.

The Juventus star is a serial winner having won numerous trophies throughout his career, including the Euro 2020 title last year. Apart from being a world-class defender, his winning mentality and leadership qualities could be an invaluable addition to the Spurs squad.

Spurs are off to their best start in a Premier League season, level on points with Manchester City and only four points behind league leaders Arsenal – and are widely expected to mount a title challenge this season as well as end their trophy drought. Signing a player like Bonucci could certainly help their chances.
