Kane Should Leave Tottenham Sooner Than Later Says Jamie Carragher

Harry Kane might find it difficult to get a big move away from Tottenham the longer he stays at the club, according to Jamie Carragher.

The striker recently admitted during an Instagram Live interview with Jamie Redknapp that he would consider leaving Spurs if he feels the club are not able to fulfil his ambition of winning major trophies.

The instinct among most fans is that the 26-year-old might give Jose Mourinho a full season to put us in that position, but Carragher has warned Kane about the dangers of waiting around at Spurs for too long.

The former Liverpool defender, turned leading pundit, wrote in his Telegraph column that Kane’s potential suitors, such as Manchester United, might be deterred from paying big money for him if he has another season at Spurs, especially as the Coronavirus crisis means it is unclear when that season will be played.

“Kane turns 27 in July,” Carragher said in his Telegraph column. “We have no idea when the next transfer window will open or next season start. If Kane does not leave soon, the situation gets trickier for him.

“When players hit 28, psychologically it makes a big difference to clubs. They see him as nearer 30, recognise there is no resale value and balk at high valuations.

“Manchester United’s need for a top-class No.9 is urgent and they might see Kane as the ideal fit, but they will apply the same logic if the fee is upwards of £150 million.”

I never thought I’d be siding with a man encouraging Kane to leave Spurs, but our recent decline has made it almost inevitable that will happen.

While I would be angered, although not in Kane’s direction, to see him go, part of me thinks we’d be smart to sell him while his value is at its peak, and realistically that is probably at the next opportunity that we get.
