Italian journalist claims Tottenham Hotspur will be “the leader” in the summer transfer market

The January transfer window presents an opportunity for Tottenham Hotspur to improve the squad, but no moves have been made yet, and it seems there might not be any transactions occurring this month.

Italian football journalist Gianluca Di Marzio (via FourFourTwo) stated that the north London club would be “the leader” of the transfer market in the summer. Furthermore, he adds that the difficulty of finding top players in January could result in Spurs putting off business until the summer.

“In January, it is very difficult, very difficult to find top players available who can change teams. So it is not easy,” Di Marzio said.

One player that Managing Director of Football Fabio Paratici and manager Antonio Conte are keen on landing Juventus Dejan Kulusevski, which could kick start their busy summer.

“I know that Antonio and Fabio Paratici, they like Kulusevski for example, [he] is a young Juventus player that Fabio got to Juventus, buying him from Atalanta,” Di Marzio claims.

“It is not easy, but he is one of the names [on Tottenham’s radar]. And then I think in this January, Tottenham will do something, but I think in June, Tottenham will be the leader of the market with a lot of important deals.”

Conte has preached patience, but at the same time, is demanding that Tottenham lift their standards to his level. The January window is challenging to secure players; Di Marzio is preparing Tottenham supporters to do most of its business in six months.

Whether staying pat is enough to land a top-four spot remains to be seen.
