“It would be a fantastic option.” Pundit tips Kane to drop deeper if Spurs sign target

Danny Mills believes that Harry Kane can drop deeper into some kind of a number 10 role if Tottenham signs Danny Ings.

Ings has been linked with a move to Tottenham this month as he delays signing a new Southampton contract.

The Englishman is one of the most prolific strikers in the Premier League and he should be playing at a top-six club.

The Saints are keen to keep hold of him, but if he doesn’t sign a new contract, there is always the possibility that he will leave them for another team.

Mills was speaking about the move on Football Insider and he said that both strikers can play together in the same lineup, tipping Kane to give up the number nine role for the former Liverpool man.

He said Kane can be like Wayne Rooney, who also dropped into midfield to influence attacking plays in the final years of his career.

“Danny Ings is in his late 20s now so it’s probably going to be his last big deal,” Mills told Football Insider.

“When it runs out he’s going to be into his 30s so he’s probably thinking ‘now or never that I need to cash in for my future.’ And I completely understand that.

“He’s probably thinking ‘Right OK, I’m in a hot vein of form.’

“Injuries and medicals will always come into it but he’s overcome some very, very difficult injuries which is all credit to him.

“Could he play as a two up front with Harry Kane? Why not? Quite possibly. Could Harry Kane play in a slighter deeper role as a number 10 as we saw Wayne Rooney do towards the end of his career and drop into that position?
