“I’m really shocked, if I’m really honest,” Pundit reacts to possible Pochettino return to Tottenham

Alan Hutton has admitted that he would be very surprised if Spurs managed to pull off the return of Mauricio Pochettino.

They fired the Argentinean in 2019 and replaced him with Jose Mourinho who was sacked this season after a poor run of form.

Spurs are now on the lookout for a new boss and they hope to get that sorted before the start of next season.

They have targeted the likes of Brendan Rodgers and Julian Nagelsmann, but will not be employing either of them.

They have now turned their attention to bringing back Poch who helped them to reach the final of the Champions League before getting sacked.

He was a huge fan favourite and some of the club supporters would be very happy to have him back.

However, Hutton says it surprises him that the current PSG manager would want to come back to the club.

“I’m really shocked, if I’m really honest,” Hutton told Football Insider.

“I mean, he’s just in this PSG job and for him to leave that to go back to Tottenham, where he was fired, it’s a bit strange for me. We all know that he was working on something at Tottenham, he was building something.

“It got to a stage where it probably needed, not an overhaul, but it needed a change of faces within the squad. Daniel Levy didn’t back him and then it all kind of fell apart after that Champions League game.

“Obviously, it didn’t end on the best terms. So, he (Levy) would have to come out and admit he made a massive mistake in then bringing him back. Do you really want to go back to the overall grind again? It is very difficult.

“I always find it hard when you hear about players, managers, going back a second time. You don’t want to tarnish what you’ve done on your first time around. It’s a very difficult decision. I’d be very surprised if that happens.”
