Former Gooner details why Tottenham is feeling the pressure from Arsenal in the top-four race

On Monday, Tottenham Hotspur received good news when they saw Manchester United fall at Anfield to Liverpool. Spurs were hoping that this streak would continue into Tuesday when Arsenal took on Chelsea.

However, The Gunners avoided what occurred to Manchester United as Mikel Arteta’s squad went into Stamford Bridge and picked up a 4-2 win. The two north London rivals are tied with the same number of points, but Tottenham remains in fourth due to goal differential.

During a segment on the Sky Sports postgame show, former Arsenal man Paul Merson spoke about how Spurs are beginning to feel the pressure, adding that there’s no doubt in his mind that Antonio Conte’s squad was watching the game, hoping for a Chelsea win.

“Every Tottenham fan, every Tottenham player. And don’t let anybody tell you they’re not watching,” Merson said. “Please tell me they’re not everybody. What we all played the game you’re watching. You’re going like where they won’t win there. And now they’re like, Wow.”

Tottenham might have their eyes on Saturday’s fixtures as it will see Manchester United travel to the Emirates Stadium for a tilt with Arsenal. After their loss to Liverpool, The Red Devils are in dire need of the three points; meanwhile, The Gunners will hope to leap over Spurs, who will be taking on Brentford.
