Conte planning move for £53m Champions League star who destroyed Spurs

According to a report from Portugese outlet Record (via Express ), Tottenham are interested in signing Sporting Lisbon’s Manuel Ugarte.

The Uruguayan has said to have impressed Antonio Conte who watched him closely during Spurs’ 2-0 defeat to the Portuguese club in the Champions League a couple of weeks ago.

However, according to the report, Spurs will not find it cheap to sign Ugarte. The player as a £53 million release clause at the moment, but that is expected to rise, with Sporting looking to offer a new contract with a £70 million release clause instead.

If that valuation is met, Ugarte will become Tottenham’s most expensive transfer ever, surpassing the £60 million they paid Everton for Richarlison this summer.

PSG are also reportedly interested in signing the defensive midfielder and Spurs should be concerned if that is true.

Conte will get a chance to have another look at the player when they face Sporting in the Champions League fixture on 26th October.
