Bale set to retire after next season when his Real Madrid deal comes to an end

Gareth Bale is set to retire from football when he turns 33 in a year, according to Spanish paper, AS.

The Welshman has spent this season back on loan at Tottenham where he has only impressed in flashes.

The Lilywhites have enjoyed his talents occasionally, but his physical condition hasn’t always been the best.

He joined Spurs injured and needed some weeks to get to the required level to play.

Even when he started playing, the report says he has limited himself to a few training drills and doesn’t trust his body to see him through running drills.

He has lost the explosiveness which made him such a nightmare to play against in his first stint at Tottenham.

The attacker is now set to give in to his body with the report claiming that his plan is to return to Madrid after this season.

He hopes to fulfil the last year of his deal with them and then leave football in the summer of 2022 at the expiry of his mega money contract.

Bale has shown fine form in recent weeks and it remains unclear if Spurs will ask Madrid to allow them to have him for another season when his current spell ends.
