One of the great things about this job are the relationships you make along the way. Mr Nope and I chat about the Spurs, booze and many of life’s other nonsenses pretty frequently. So when I got a WhatsApp message first thing we were just shooting the breeze as normal, which included him being off to the barbers today, it was just a normal chat between two blokes.
Except when Mr Nope pops in for a trim, he gets offered beer and shots – I really gotta speak to my Kurdish boys about that sort of set up.
Then I get another message, ‘Vorm is in my barbers I think’. Of course, my initial thought was, ‘just how many shots have you had?!’ But it was true!
Michel was at his business, Maeson‘s and he was very happy to chat.
Of course the conversation touched on Spurs. Vorm believes that it is far too early to start talking about our chances of winning the league, but he appreciates that the squad is in a far better place to challenge than it has been.
Why did Michel retire? “I’d had enough, mate. I’m 37 and wanted to come home and spend time with the family and concentrate on my investments“, at which point it emerges that the former Tottenham man actually owned the barbershop Maeson, that Mr Nope routinely uses.
Mr Nope told The Boy Hotspur, “He was just nice, a really, really humble man who time for a Spurs fan”.
