Willian Jose Allegedly Goes On Strike As Spurs Talk Intensifies

Willian Jose has gone on strike at Real Sociedad amidst rumours that he is close to a move to Tottenham Hotspur.

Sociedad’s official Twitter account confirmed this evening that the 28-year-old striker had asked to be left out of the team until his future is clarified.

He withdrew from the squad to face Espanyol tonight at late notice.

Thanks to Google Translate I know that roughly means: “Last minute change in the call: Lobete (number 35) enters the list instead of Willian José. The forward has asked the Club to stay out until his situation is clarified”

Spanish publication AS reported earlier today that the Brazilian forward was close to joining Spurs as we desperately seek cover for Harry Kane, and was even poised to travel to London. Although a fee is yet to be agreed.

Desperate may be a bit strong to describe our interest in Jose, who has 53 goals in 130 outings for Sociedad since 2016 – a very respectable return. But his record across his previous eight clubs – 39 in 178 – is more No Way Jose.

The statement from Sociedad certainly gives the AS report credibility. So after weeks of random names in the gossip columns, it looks as though Jose could be the one. The underwhelming, we’ll-take-what-we-can-get, one.

That’s if Levy can come up with the money, so there’s a long way to go, strike or not.
