“Will keep me in the team” – 22-yr-old reveals what Conte has asked of him

Tottenham defender Ryan Sessegnon has opened up about a chat he has had with manager Antonio Conte regarding his future.

The young defender has revealed that Conte wants him to be more effective going forward and getting more goals and assists will keep him in the starting line-up. Sessegnon believes that he was impressive defensively last season but he needs to improve offensively.

“To be more effective. Defensively last season I think I was very good. You can always improve on that as well but my aim this season is to score more goals and more assists,” he said to Football London. “More goals and assists will keep me in the team so that’s my aim.

“Before I signed at the club I was scoring a lot of goals at Fulham so I just want to get back to that this season. My aim is to play many games for Spurs. To get through the season strong and play many games. Then we’ll see what happens after that.”

The 22-year-old can operate as a left-back as well as a left-winger and he was quite impressive going forward during his time at Fulham.

The youngster is currently working hard to improve on the physical aspect of his game and he has vowed to add more goals and assists next season. He also revealed that summer signing Ivan Perisic has been helpful with tips to improve his attacking game.

Defender Sergio Reguilon is expected to leave Tottenham before the summer transfer window closes and it would be fair to assume that this is a massive opportunity for Sessegnon to nail down the starting left-back spot as his own.

It will be interesting to see if the youngster can add more end product to his game and get over his injury issues in the upcoming season.
