Why Tottenham loss to Man City does not mean inevitable defeat in the Carabao Cup final

Based on the manner of the defeat to Man City yesterday, who it must be noted was without Kevin De Bruyne and Sergio Aguero, you would think that defeat is inevitable in the Carabao Cup final but that would be the wrong conclusion to draw.

History, including recent events, is littered with remarkable turnarounds in fortunes.

Take Southampton last season, they lost 9-0 to Leicester City in the Premier League at home and when they played the reverse fixture at the King Power Stadium, the Saints won 2-1.

Some may say but Leicester is not Man City, fine, then let’s take City as an example, last season they lost 2-0 to Arsenal in the FA Cup semi-final after beating them 3-0 at the Etihad, the exact same score that Spurs lost by yesterday.

There are many more examples, as I say, history is littered with such reversals and while the odds still favour a City victory, it is far from a foregone conclusion.

Jose Mourinho will know this and you can take it to the bank that he will remind his players of these facts, he will also remind them that they have lost just once to City in their last four meetings.

Right now it feels hopeless but there are still good reasons to feel confident that Mourinho and the lads will deliver silverware this season for the first time in over a decade.
