“We are here to win something this year” Mourinho drilling a winning mentality into Spurs stars

Tottenham have gone 12 years without winning a trophy despite coming close on quite a few occasions.

The Lilywhites have been one of the best teams in Europe at this start of the season as Jose Mourinho looks to create history with them as he did with Chelsea when he first came to English football.

Having been backed in the transfer market in the summer, the Portuguese manager knows that he has to repay the faith with a trophy, and he has been doing just fine with his team at the moment.

One of the players that have been trusted by Mourinho to play for the club since he became their manager is Ben Davies and the Welsh left-back sees the end of the club’s trophy drought in sight.

He says that winning a trophy is long overdue and that the players are pulling in the same direction with regards to that.

Asked if Spurs had never been in a better position to end their 12-year wait for a trophy, Davies said on Standard Sports: “I think so.

“It feels like it’s been a long time coming to try to win something but everyone at this club is determined to.

“It’s not easy to manage a big squad with the number of good players we’ve got here but everybody is pulling in the same direction, they’re players on the bench and players some weeks who aren’t even in the squad.

“But you can see when they get their chance to play themselves, it’s 100 per cent effort and 100 per cent desire and that’s fully across the team. It comes from a desire to win something. The gaffer has drilled into us that we are here to win something this year.

“That comes from that desire and mentality to pick up points at every moment. That winning mentality, creating those good habits of picking up points regularly is exactly where we want to be.”
