Villarreal club chief discusses the possibility of Tottenham loanee remaining

The future of midfielder Giovani Lo Celso isn’t in north London with Tottenham Hotspur. The Argentine boosted in stock in his six-month loan stint with Villarreal, so there’s a market for the 25-year-old this summer.

Lo Celso endured a successful spell with The Yellow Submarine, helping them reach the UEFA Champions League semifinals. Marca relayed the remarks made by Villarreal CEO Fernando Roig, where he discussed the possibility of the midfielder staying with the Spanish club.

Roig spoke about the situation regarding Lo Celso as a complex one, but they’d be happy to hold onto the midfielder for next season.

“It’s a complex operation but the truth is that the player has been happy here and we are happy with him,” Roig said. “We will do all that we can to have him next season but it won’t be an easy task to achieve it.”

“He is a very good player. He has played for PSG, Betis, Tottenham, had a good spell with us. He is an Argentina international, a very important footballer. He gave us a lot and I hope he will do the same in the future.”

The Spurs midfielder made 22 appearances, scoring one goal and recording one assist, so Villarreal would like to see him stay as a key player on their squad for next season. Tottenham will want to sell as a sale of Lo Celso would allow them to recoup a fee to help offset costs for the transfers.
