Tottenham will return with an improved offer for 22-year-old this week

Tottenham remains interested in a move for Japan Olympic star, Takehiro Tomiyasu and they will return with another attempt to sign him with an improved offer this week.

They had turned their attention towards completing the transfer of Cristian Romero after seeing their bid for the versatile Japanese star rejected initially.

Football Insider claims they offered Bologna £15.5m plus add-ons to sign the 22-year-old.

That offer was rejected and they will now return with an improved one to close out the deal.

It claims that Fabio Paratici is prepared to offer £17million for him now and hopes that will be enough to conclude negotiations.

Tomiyasu is versatile and can play as either a right-back or a centre-back in a back three.

Spurs are bolstering their defence and with Romero also joining, Tomiyasu will probably play as a right-back for much of the time.

He would replace the outgoing Serge Aurier and will be confident that he can win the competition for a place with Matt Doherty.

Doherty thrived under Nuno Espirito Santo at Wolves, but he struggled at Tottenham last season.

It remains to be seen if the new Tottenham boss will give him the chance to be his first choice again in the upcoming season.
