Tottenham leading the race to sign top quality free agent that is desperately needed

It is being reported in the Metro that Tottenham are the front runners to sign Paris Saint Germain defender Thomas Meunier.

Meunier is set to leave the French champions this summer on a free transfer after failing to agree to a new deal with the Ligue 1 giants, which is hardly surprising considering he has struggled to convince Thomas Tuchel that he is worthy of a place in the PSG first team.

Spurs do face competition from Bundesliga side Borussia Dortmund as reported by Le Parisian, however, they are also claiming that Jose Mourinho has already made contact with the Belgium international.

Meunier would certainly be a welcome addition to the squad, he is a right-back, a position that needs strengthening and at 28, still has a good three to four years at the top left in him.

The fact that two media outlets from two countries are basically reporting the same thing, albeit from different angles, does give this particular rumour a bit of credence.

This transfer would definitely suit Daniel Levy, he would love to sign a quality player for free, though his wage demands may be an issue simply because Meunier will know full well that he is a hot property, as most free agents will be as soon as the summer transfer window opens up and that puts him in a position to demand a high salary.
