Tottenham eye forgotten Premier League striker but rival manager may provide hurdle to January deal

Remember Islam Slimani? Nah, of course you don’t.

But Leicester City paid £30m for him in 2016, according to The Guardian.
And despite falling off the radar, a 31-year-old Slimani is actually still on the books at Leicester.

After forgettable loan spells with Newcastle and Fenerbahce, he is currently being borrowed by Monaco.

And he’s not doing badly, having hit seven goals in 13 Ligue 1 appearances – a considerably better goals-per-game record than his Leicester figures of eight strikes in 35 Premier League outings.

Anyway, Tottenham’s random-striker generator appears to have spat out Slimani’s name as the search for a short-term Harry Kane replacement continues.

A report by The Telegraph claims that Leicester are braced for Spurs interest in Slimani, although it also suggests that manager Brendan Rodgers may be unwilling to strengthen a team who are rivals for a top-four place.

Leicester – who travel to N17 on the penultimate weekend of the Premier League season – are currently 14 points clear of Spurs.
