“This is our Everest and this is how we’re going to approach it.” Marine man hoping to cause FA Cup upset

David Raven is hoping to cause another cup upset against Tottenham after being a part of the Liverpool team of youngsters who eliminated Spurs from the League Cup in 2004.

Rafa Benitez rested most of his senior players for that game at Anfield and a stronger Tottenham side were clear favourites for the match.

However, Liverpool’s youngsters shocked Spurs by cancelling out Jermain Defoe’s opener through Florent Sinama-Pongolle and took the game to penalties.

They beat Tottenham 4-3 in the shoot out to advance to the next level.

Raven was one of the top players in the Liverpool team that day as he made a solid block late in the game to deny Spurs a late winner.

At 35, he now plays for Marine and he is hopeful that he can help them cause yet another upset when they face Spurs this weekend.

He said that the game would be like the David and Goliath scenario and hopes they win against all odds.

“It’s David and Goliath stuff, one of them where we are being written off and people may say rightly so, it’s a done deal already,” Raven told talkSPORT.

“So it’s a mentality thing for us. If we mentally prepare right, like we have done for the other games, then we stand a chance. There is a chance.

“We want to approach the game like that and give it everything we’ve got because you just never know what happens, you just don’t know.

“It’ll be a record if we do it. The four-minute mile wasn’t done before, Mount Everest wasn’t climbed before. This is our Everest and this is how we’re going to approach it.”
