Former Scotland manager Alex McLeish has tipped Tottenham to eventually name a young manager as their next boss.
The Lilywhites have been on the lookout for another boss for much of this summer.
Their search hasn’t been successful and after failing to finish talks for the likes of Paulo Fonseca and Antonio Conte, their fans don’t know what to expect next.
It seems every top managerial target wants to avoid the Tottenham job, but they are still linked with a move with the likes of Graham Potter of Brighton and Nuno Espirito Santo, who has just left Wolves.
McLeish says a top manager would only want to take the job if he is sure that he would get the right tools to make the club better.
However, Tottenham can go for a younger manager like Potter or Belgium head coach, Roberto Martinez.
“I’m sure there’ll be some precocious young coach who will eventually take the job,” McLeish told Football Insider.
“A lot of top coaches will be thinking am I going to get the money? Am I going to be able to improve it?
“As a coach, you can’t walk in and say: ‘I’m going to turn these players into a championship-winning team without adding to the quality.
“That will be the key for the major coaches. Do they take a chance on a good, young coach? I’ve heard from people I know Graham Potter’s name was mentioned a few times and (Roberto) Martinez also.
“I would have thought that those guys, maybe a coach of those two’s magnitude, would be the correct choice for Spurs.
Reports have linked both managers with a move to Spurs, but it seems Daniel Levy and Fabio Paratici want a more high-profile manager to coach the club next.
