Samuel Umtiti? No Thanks, We’re Tottenham Enough As It Is, Son

Tottenham Hotspur are one of several Premier League clubs who are trying to sign Barcelona centre-back Samuel Umtiti, according to reports in Spain.

El Desmarque understand that Barcelona are ready to sell the 26-year-old after a difficult spell with injuries and have a bunch of suitors in England.

Manchester United and Arsenal are also linked to the Frenchman who was considered one of the best defenders around either side of starting for his country throughout their triumphant World Cup campaign in 2018.

As a general rule, central defenders peak from 27-31 so any club that gets Umtiti potentially has his best years ahead of him, if he can stay injury free.

And that is the one caveat to Umtiti, who has missed 31 games with knee problems since September 2018, according to transfermarkt.com – thus why Barcelona appear willing to cash in on him while his value is preserved.

OPINION Umtiti’s left-footedness would make him a well-suited replacement for Jan Vertonghen, if we feel we can gamble on his fitness.

Tottenham are currently plagued with injury prone players!

Then again, if he did not have any fitness issues, we would probably not have a chance of signing him.
