Report: Tottenham were willing to meet demands for Spanish striker

Tottenham Hotspur wanted to bring in a striker to help their squad contribute more goals to lessen their dependence on Harry Kane and Son Heung-min. However, the north London club could not land a striker during the January transfer window.

Nonetheless, The Times reports that Spurs were willing to meet Atlético de Madrid’s demands for Alvaro Morata late in the transfer window. Furthermore, Tottenham did accelerate discussions with Atlético over a deal for the former Chelsea striker.

Tottenham was willing to accept the Spanish club’s demands of a guaranteed fee for Morata, but they were ‘unable to persuade the 29-year-old to join.

Juventus pair Dejan Kulusevski and Rodrigo Bentancour were Tottenham’s only two new acquisitions during the January window. Morata would’ve arrived in north London and played behind Kane, so perhaps being second on the depth chart didn’t sit well with him.

Nonetheless, it seems that striker will be atop of Spurs transfer list heading into the summer.
