Report: Tottenham open to taking Barcelona defender on a loan deal

Clement Lenglet’s time at FC Barcelona could be coming to an end this summer as Sport reports that manager Xavi Hernandez isn’t counting on the French international for next season.

As a result, the La Liga side would prioritize a transfer, although they are beginning to be open to a loan given the difficulties of finding a fair price for the defender. Nonetheless, there are interested parties for Lenglet.

The Spanish media outlet adds that Tottenham Hotspur has asked Barcelona about their situation regarding the 26-year-old. Manager Antonio Conte would have reportedly gree lite the pursuit as long as the economic conditions were optimal.

Lenglet renewed his deal until 2026, and his salary is increasing progressively. His wages surpass €6 million net per season, making it very difficult to offload even on a loan deal, much less a permanent transfer.

The north London club would be willing to take over a good part of this record as long as the player renounced part of his salary. Still, they would only be interested in a loan until the end of the season with a possible non-mandatory purchase option.

There is a particular rush for a departure regarding the France international at Barcelona, but other clubs are being sounded out to try to improve conditions.
