Report: Tottenham Hotspur is the frontrunner to land Bologna midfielder

Tottenham Hotspur manager Antonio Conte wants to build the squad’s spine, which means having a strong midfield. This past summer, the north London-based club Pape Matar Sarr from FC Metz but left the teenager with the Ligue 1 side for another season on loan.

As the January window opens in a few weeks, Tottenham will be looking for another building block for their midfield. It seems as though Managing Director of Football Fabio Paratici wants to look for young talent in Serie A.

According to iNews, Tottenham is the frontrunner to land Bologna F.C. 1909 midfielder Mattias Svanberg. The 22-year-old has been with the Italian club since 2018, so both Paratici and Conte would have seen enough to form a strong opinion on the Sweden international.

Svanberg has made 104 appearances scoring nine goals and registering seven assists for the Serie A side. Svanberg can play all over the midfield, whether it’s in the attacking or defensive position, but it seems with Bologna, he players the central midfield role.

The midfielder also brings height, standing at 1.85 meters, with some of his strengths being long shots and through passes, per WhoScored. The website also lists Svanberg’s style, which is one who gets fouled often, plays the ball off the ground often, and plays long balls.
