Report: Spurs pursuing Lille defender to satisfy Antonio Conte

Tottenham Hotspur will head into the summer looking to convince manager Antonio Conte they are willing to spend up to his standards to build a squad that can compete to win the Premier League.

According to The Daily Star, Tottenham wants to beat out Newcastle United to sign Lille OSC defender Sven Botman, which would be a move to satisfy the Italian manager.

The report states that Conte is still to be convinced that the club’s front office will back him, as promised, in the transfer market following a January window that provided mixed results in his eyes.

Botman would fill a significant role in the starting eleven for Spurs as he fills the need for a left-footed, left-sided center-half – as Conte is insisting the North London club get him, an absolute priority this summer to pair him alongside Cristian Romero.

The pressure is on chairman Daniel Levy to execute a £30million deal with the French club before Newcastle does, whether it can be done or not will remain to be seen.
