Report: Bayer Leverkusen sets its asking price for defender linked to Tottenham

The backline is a position that Tottenham Hotspur wants to upgrade this summer, and they’re linked to various central defenders to help strengthen their defense for next season.

One name that the north London club is linked to is Bayer Leverkusen defender Piero Hincapie. If Spurs want to pursue the 20-year-old, the German side has reportedly set their asking price for any team looking to pry away the Ecuador international.

According to The Sun, Tottenham has to pay at least £34million for the defender. A move for Inter Milan’s Alessandro Bastoni doesn’t seem to be making progress; as a result, Spurs might need to begin exploring other options.

Hincapie has emerged as a quality center-back for Bayer Leverkusen, appearing in 33 fixtures, where he scored two goals and recorded one assist. He also helped Ecuador qualify for the FIFA World Cup later this year, and his value could go up if he performs well at the tournament.

The defender is under contract until 2026, so the Bundesliga club is in a position where they don’t need to sell unless their price is met.
