“I don’t mean it horribly” – Spurs fans will be fuming with pundit’s Crystal Palace prediction

Paul Merson has made his prediction for this weekend’s clash between Crystal Palace and Tottenham and it doesn’t make for good reading for Spurs fans.

Spurs threw away a 2-0 lead to lose 3-2 away at Brighton in the final game before the October international break.

However, the Lilywhites have recovered brilliantly from that setback, thrashing West Ham United 4-1 last weekend before beating AZ Alkmaar 1-0 in the Europa League on Thursday.

Another London derby is on the menu this weekend as Spurs travel to Selhurst Park on Sunday.

Should results go their way, a win over the Eagles could lift Spurs to fifth in the table and within touching distance of the Champions League places.

Paul Merson believes ‘Spursy’ curse will strike again

Unfortunately for Spurs fans, Merson doesn’t think they’ll manage another victory this Sunday.

The former Arsenal forward highlighted the ‘Spursy’ way they threw away the Brighton result as a reason why the Lilywhites will only take a 2-2 draw back to North London.

“I have a feeling Crystal Palace will find it difficult against Tottenham this weekend, but I’m fully aware that it also depends on what Tottenham turn up for the game,” Merson wrote in his Sportskeeda predictions column.

“I don’t mean it horribly, but sometimes they get a bit ‘Spursy’. That’s the problem with them at the moment.

“I watched Spurs’ first half against Brighton and I thought, ‘wow, they could actually give teams a real go in the race for the top four’. We all know what happened after that. On their day, Tottenham are a really good team. They should show that more often on a consistent basis.

“Palace are a tough team to face away from home. Oliver Glasner has to go with Eddie Nketiah and Jean-Philippe Mateta together at the top and try to get the win in this game. Mateta is a bigger unit and can cause problems to most teams, he’s a real handful and I’d even play him ahead of Nketiah if I’m being honest.

“This is a difficult game for Spurs and I think they’ll share the spoils in a good, entertaining contest.”
