Opinion: Combative Danny Rose Really Not Helping Himself Or Spurs Any More

Danny Rose was a fan favourite. There was a time when the sight of he and Kyle Walker bombing up the wings became a defining sight when Spurs were at their best in 2017, under Mauricio Pochettino’s tenure. Whilst neither player never fully ironed out the ability to make the odd daft mistake, the pair were not just exciting to watch, but comprised 50% of the division’s best back-four.

The catalyst for the self destructive behaviour was undoubtedly the departure of Walker to Manchester City. The Harry Hotspur blog at the time heard from a source to the club that Rose had felt left behind. The peak of the discontent was ‘that’ interview with The Sun.

This chat with journalist Dave Kidd was labelled ‘explosive’, but in truth, it was bewildering more than anything. In a nutshell, the former Leeds boy said he wanted to play “up north” and that he wanted “to win things”.

Clearly there was a significant communication issue within the club, that saw a senior player would feel compelled to ‘open his heart’ across the back page of a national newspaper.

The arrival of Mourinho at Tottenham didn’t lessen Rose’s blunt approach to his situation. In December 2109, when asked if he had spoken to José about his prospects at Spurs, the reply was cold, “I’ve never had a conversation with him and I don’t see why I need to”.

This combative attitude didn’t bode well, and sure enough, The Daily Mail have now broken a story of training ground bust up between Rose and the gaffer.

Who know what the future holds for Danny? Maybe everything we read has been horribly distorted, let’s hope so for the now 29-year-old’s sake, because the discord in these articles isn’t something that many coaches would want in their dressing rooms.
