“Not consistently enough” Pundit slams declining Tottenham man who continues to be abysmal

Noel Whelan has slammed Dele Alli for his inconsistency and his steady decline over recent seasons.

The midfielder had a rapid rise when he moved from MK Dons to Tottenham in 2015, but he has struggled in the last few years and has continued to be poor under Nuno Espirito Santo.

After a woeful 2020/2021, he was expected to make a good comeback in this campaign, but that hasn’t been the case.

The Englishman didn’t get much playing time last season, but increased game time hasn’t made him a better contributor to Tottenham’s success in this campaign.

Football Insider revealed yesterday that Tottenham was looking to finally cash in on him because he is a poor trainer and can be tough to manage for any Spurs coach.

Whelan has reacted to that development and claims that truly the midfielder has been a poor version of himself over the last two years and his decline has been steady.

“There’s no doubt that in the past two years he’s not been the Dele Alli that we saw when he first came to Tottenham,” the former Leeds United man told Football Insider.

“He was very much involved with everything that was good about Tottenham with his goals and the way he controlled that midfield area with his energy.

“Then all of a sudden it changed and over the last two and a half years he hasn’t quite been that fixed, permanent player in the Tottenham side.

“We’ve seen little flashes of him, but not consistently enough.”
