Breaking: Mauricio Pochettino Declines Benfica Job “He wants a challenge that will motivate him”

Breaking news from Portugal, where Record report that former Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino has apparently said thanks, but no thanks to the Portuguese giants, Benfica.

The Argentine has reportedly told the press that he wants a challenge that moves him (which makes sense) but added an interesting postscript; “the English league enchants him, but he is ready to train elsewhere if the project attracts him.”

This is clearly a not very heavily coded message to other suitors that the 48-year-old is not wedded to the Premier League, despite still residing in London.

Pochettino’s stock will remain high despite his lack of tangible success at Spurs, especially given the teething problems that Jose Mourinho has encountered. After all, if The Special One can’t do your job better than you, that has to reflect well, right?

Pochettino needs to pick the right project for himself and for his coaching staff, a wrong step at this stage and his value would naturally plummet.
