Love His Ambition: Tanganga Doesn’t Want To Wait For England Call-Up

Tottenham defender Japhet Tanganga has got his sights set on an England debut when the Covid-19 pandemic passes, his agent has revealed.

Roberto De Fanti has told Italian outlet Tutto Mercato that Gareth Southgate was considering calling up the 21-year-old before football was postponed.

England’s friendlies against Denmark and Italy in March were obviously cancelled and the international schedule has since been thrown off further with the postponement of the European Championships until next summer.

This gives Tanganga some extra time to impress Southgate and force his way into the Euros squad, but De Fanti has admitted that the versatile youngster is hungry for international recognition as soon as possible.

De Fanti is quoted by Tutto Mercato as saying: “We hope that on his return he will also be called into the national team, given that it is rumoured that he was already in Southgate’s thoughts despite his very young age.”

Tanganga has 10 caps at U20 level but has yet to be called up by England’s U21s, so he may be jumping the gun a little aiming for the senior side.

But there’s nothing wrong with Tanganga’s ambition. Southgate puts his faith in youth so there is every chance he is firmly on the England radar.
