Tottenham has just signed Joe Rodon from Swansea for a £15m fee, but one Welsh journalist doesn’t feel that they received fair value for the defender.
The 22-year-old came through the ranks at the Swans and he was their most valuable player in this transfer window.
Spurs managed to get him signed for less than the £18m that was demanded, and some of their fans feel even that asking price was too low.
Writing in his column for Wales Online, Guto Llewelyn reckons that losing Rodon for that price is yet another bitter pill for the Welsh side’s fans to swallow.
He laments how they have been losing their top players every summer before claiming that they have massively undersold the defender.
He used Adam Webster’s £20m move to Brighton last summer for context and claimed that Rodon shouldn’t have been valued at less than £20m in the first place.
Some of the excerpts read: “A 22-year-old full Welsh international, possibly the best centre-back in the division for less than £20m? It seemed like a dangerously low starting point.
“To add some context, Adam Webster was two years older than Rodon when he moved from Bristol City to Brighton last summer for £20m. Webster’s a very able centre-back but he was no better than Rodon is right now.”
Time will tell if Tottenham landed a bargain, the Premier League is different to the Championship and there is no guarantee that Rodon will make the step up.
